VOM 2012 is organized in co-operation with:

The Status and Needs of the Victim of Crime in Mediation - Nordic Seminar

As a part of the programme of the Finnish Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers 2011, the Ministry of Justice and the Advisory Board for Victim-Offender Mediation are arranging a two-day seminar in Helsinki, on the 9th and 10th of February 2012, on victim’s position in Restorative Justice and Victim-Offender Mediation.

The Helsinki seminar focuses on exchanging information and views with the Nordic countries in order to strengthen the competence on Restorative Justice and on several aspects of Victim-Offender Mediation, especially victims’ rights in VOM processes, serious crimes in mediation, immigrants in VOM, young people in VOM and the methodology used in Restorative Justice practises.

The seminar programme consists of plenary sessions and working groups. One of the working groups reports plenary results of an EU funded project "Victims and Restorative Justice: An empirical study of the needs, experiences and position of victims within restorative justice practices", focusing particularly on the special issues related to intimate partner violence.

We have the pleasure of inviting you to this seminar that is targeted at government officials and experts on Restorative Justice and victim issues, practitioners within the criminal justice system such as judges and public prosecutors, service providing organisations and victim support agencies. The programme and the discussions will be carried out in English.

The seminar will be held at the Marina Congress Center, Helsinki.

There is no fee for this seminar. Participants must, however, cover their own travel and accommodation costs and are expected to register to the seminar.

During the seminar days, there will be a small exhibition at the back of the plenary hall and we welcome small stands and roll-ups relevant to the seminar subjects.
